Philosophy 101

So what does it take to create one’s own philosophy? Is there a degree of knowledge that must first exist or it is out of the self evident truths that exist within all of us, I would like to think it the later. After all some of the wisest things I have ever heard were said by children, who have yet to be acted upon by the world and its many fallacies. Each of us over time (weather we know it or not) are creating a philosophy. It is shaped by those that we are surrounded by, our experiences, our emotions, and our actions. It is a fluid and living thing as can be seen in what we believed as children have changed from what we now believe. And it is this philosophy that guides us along our path as we trek forward in life. After thinking about that I wondered about my own personal philosophy and if it is accurate (for me), or if I am guided by ideals or principals to which I have not fully subscribed, and truthfully I could not tell. Guess that says something about really learning who we really are . . . understanding oneself is the first step on the path to enlightenment. Now that is not to say that we all should imitate Rodin’s “the Thinker” and meditate for hours on end; rather, it is just something to give attention to as we go about our lives.

Time

We always seem to have too much or not enough. It drags when we are bored and fly’s when we are joyous. What a peculiar thing time really is, if there is such a thing at all. We see our bodies grow and change and believe it the work of time. We season the seasons pass and once again time is credited. But is it really time in the way we are thinking about it? What if there is no time and everything that is and ever was is still right here right now with us and all around us. Often I think that the linear perception of time is more of an analogy used so we have a means to understand something that is so simplistic in nature that we cannot understand it. To believe that time is linear as modern thinking would have us believe leads us to accept that there was a beginning and there will be an end. But if that is the case then what exists beyond those stated boundaries? More then that how can we even define those boundaries.

No I think time to be circular and infinite. We often view things as happening so long ago or so far away but I really believe that they are right here and now we just cannot see or interact with those passed or future moments. Additionally, it is a question that is the answer in that time is different for all of us. It is the same and different all at once, it is the same force but its effects vary. At least that is what I think.

Holiday Memories

So growing up Halloween was always my favorite holiday. Perhaps it was the chance to use imagination to come up with a unique costume or the thought if all the candy I would haul in later on that evening. But after thinking about it I realized what I liked most was how my entire family got into the spirit of the holiday and made it an event. It allowed everyone to be creative and share that creativity without judgment or preconceived ideas about anything. Plus it gave me a chance to stay up late while riding the sugar high!

Oh how wonderful nostalgia can be when thinking of happy childhood memories.

Big week 6 showdown

It is time to see who really is Cock of the Walk when the Patriots head down to Texas to Face the Cowboys. Both have high powered offenses (and defenses) so it should be the match up to watch. Granted I am biased and hope that the Cowboys pull off the upset in Irving. With as dominant as the AFC has been in the past few years it would be nice to see an NFC team challenge that this year. But when you are facing a team who is known for making few mistakes and playing Team football it will be interesting to see the end result.

what a week for Football

Every has heard about any given Sunday, or for the sake of this post any given Saturday. The College Football picture was turned on it head this weekend when 5 of the top 10 teams lost on the same weekend. Personally I think that this just shows how the competition level is really starting to improve through out all of college sports as more skilled players and coaches are at some of the less then notable school. Looks like Notre Dame is in for a long Season and I would like to feel sorry for them, but they were so overrated that I just cannot bring myself too. Who knows this might even be the year that Navy beats them (Hey we can all hope).

Well another week is coming to an end and I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend, or at least as relaxing of a weekend one can have when they are working. Hope that everyone out there has a good weekend!

When Iran comes to town

With the recent visit of the Iranian president to the UN it is clearly visible on just how polarized our two cultures really are. Here is a seemingly educated man who denies many simple truths that are known to exist in this world of ours (Such as Gays in Iran, the Holocaust, etc.). But this is a direct result of what the religious State of Iran wants. As long as this is what is taught and this is what is believed by its citizens then they have total control, and that is really what everything ultimately boils down too. Iran and the radical Muslim world fear that if western society takes root in the middle east then they will lose their strangle hold over their populous. Thus you have these radical people that want to bring death to all infidels all in the name of a religion that is supposed to be based on love. The irony of it all is probably what gets me the most, especially when it was Muhammad that said the Muslims pray to the same God and the Jews and the Christians.

Seeing as the world is now more of a global society I cannot see how Iran can exist unless it changes. And right now those changes are coming from within in the form of the next generation that does not want to live as they have been for the past 40 years. One of the greatest benefits of the information age is that it has been able to open the eyes of people in search of knowledge faster then at any other point in history. As such it is only a matter of time before knowledge will win the day. After all Knowledge truly is power.

NFL in full swing

Week 3 has proved to be the week where the "For Real" teams are starting to become clearly visible. Looks like the Patriots are by Far the class of the NFL and if they keep performing like they have been we might see another championship heading to Foxboro. Also, the Colts are nothing to shake a stick at and I have a feeling we will be seeing these two powerhouses slug it out when it comes time for the AFC championship. As for the NFC it looks like the Cowboys has stepped up to take the lead as the most dominate team in this conference. While there are some weak spots on defense for the Cowboys (need a more consistent secondary), their Offense is second to none. Granted it is early in the Season but as of week 3 my pick for the Super bowl is the Patriots vs. the Cowboys. Stand by for week 5 when the Cowboys host the New England Patriots in TX!

Another great week for Football

Looks like Green Bay is for real this year. As much as I would like to see San Diego get moving in a positive direction it is nice to see Farve play like he has been playing. Hopefully the Cowboys can follow suit later on this evening when they play the Bears. They still have some gaps on the defensive side of the ball but I am confident Wade Phillips will be able to patch those up as "The Boys" continue to get it done in the NFC. Are the Cowboys for Real?

Like many TRUE Cowboys fans I have been through the highs and the lows with "America's Team" and it is like a breath of fresh air to see that this years squad might be the next one to get us to the Superbowl. That is of course if Wade Phillips can get the defense to start firing on all cylinders. Granted there were are few key players out this past weekend, but that is no excuse to let anyone rack up 35 points on you. Hopefully, Greg Ellis and Terence Newman will be back in action before too long and we can see just how for real this team really is.

Ahhh Football Season

like so many Red Blooded Americans I am an avid football fan. As such this is one of the most anticipated times of the year for me. It is ever so interesting just how something like a sport can bring so many different people together in one place at one time. Perhaps it is just the nature of all humans to find some common ground on which to relate or it could be that sense of belonging that comes with claiming a "Team" as one to root for. With the ever increasing technological complexity of modern society it is becoming harder and harder for people to connect on the most basic of levels . . . and unfortunately those are the levels to where most of the quality relationship develop from. So it is nice that there are still those few outlets which enable all of us to come together and support the team of our choosing.

My goodness

With the upcoming elections, the ongoing war, the energy dilemma, and general civil unrest I like many others wonder what exactly the future will bring. My hope is that the amazing human brain will be able to create something to solve the energy problem and in turn reverse or at least stifle the effects of global warming. There are valid technologies in place that can make a huge difference such as Nuclear Power, Solar Energy, and advances in hydroelectric energy coupled with fuel cell and organic based fuels. Unfortunately, our elected officials are too concerned with in fighting or passing legislation that only expands the problem rather then fixing anything. It is no longer about serving the American people, and that is so very sad.

As for the others I do not really know what course of action to take. As for the war I feel that pull our troops out would make the world as a whole extremely unsafe, yet staying in the theater of operations is taking a high toll not only in human lives but also in precious resources. So is the world going to hell in a hand basket? Or is there hope on the horizon?
